What will lighten skin which has been darkened due to being pregnant or chemical exposure?

After my pregnancy my skin was discolored can anything be done to decrease the hyperpigmentation of my face?

Hyperpigmentation also called Melsama, (darkening or particular parts of the skin, usually, most noticeable on the face can be treated with 4% Hydoquinone ointment. Some refer to the darkened area as ‘liver spots’, freckles, age spots.
Hydroquinone needs to be used two times per day and should only be used on the part of the skin which is being treated.
Sunscreen must be used while using Hydroquinone as all of the skin, on the body, might become more sensitive to sunlight.. Covering as much of the skin as possible should also be considered
Melasma might be caused by injury, chemicals, medications, pregnancy. Offending agents need to be avoided for the medication to be effective.
Should this medication cause any side effects, talk to your pharmacist about what to expect, contact your physician immediately or go to the ER for any effects you might consider life threatening.
