sinus headaches from a cold

Every time I get a cold, it goes straight to my sinuses. I get lots of sinus headaches—sometimes in my forehead, sometimes behind one eye. Decongestants dry out my sinuses. Is there anything else I can take?

One treatment which is essentially painless and inexpensive is a nasal rinse twice daily. Costco and Walgreens sell a nasal rinse with a bottle that can be used easily. I would recommend that you perform the nasal rinse even if you are not experiencing any nasal symptoms or a cold. This should keep your nasal passages and the openings to your sinuses clear and prevent inflammation on a regular basis. This simple treatment should lessen the incidence of sinus pain. If it doesn’t, you might want to have a blood test to rule out allergies which might be causing the sinus blockage and worsen when you have a cold.
